Biography

Alice Ndidde is a lecturer at the Department of Adult Education and Communication Studies, Institute of Adult and Continuing Education, Makerere University, Uganda. Her initial training was in sociology and later she received a Master's Degree in education majoring in adult and community education from Glasgow University, Scotland. At the Institute, Alice teaches/lectures in the following subjects: Sociology of Adult Education, Psychology of Adult Learning, Gender, Development and Adult Education. In addition Alice is the coordinator of an experimental pilot project on literacy and integrated participatory learning whose major aim is to try out literacy approaches, methodologies/techniques and teaching/learning materials produced and advanced by the department before adopted for use countrywide. Alice has been deeply involved in the Government Functional Literacy Programme as facilitator in materials development and in the training of trainers. Alice also offers professional guidance and direction in the field of adult education, literacy and gender to several indigenous civil society organisations in Uganda. She has training in PLA/PRA and has experience in designing participatory community based monitoring and evaluation systems.

Alice is also the vice chairperson of Action for Development (ACFODE), a leading women's civil society organisation in Uganda whose core purpose is advocacy for gender equality and equity.
