Biography Mary Russell has supervised event management and coordinated all aspects of national and international projects at the Literacy Research Centers at the Graduate School of Education/University of Pennsylvania, since 1990. She co-directed two literacy projects: Shelnet (using computers to link homeless with needed literacy and social services) in 1993-1994 and the Collaborative Project on Adult Writing in 1994-1995. This work (Effective Feedback on Adult Writing in the Classroom) was presented at the MAACE Spring 1996 conference. Previously, Ms. Russell worked in Brussels at the Department of State and in London at the Department of Commerce. She has taught reading, writing and literacy in six states and several foreign countries. She has also taught adult ESL classes at Napa and Solano community colleges in California, and basic writing at the University of California, Davis. She received her MA in College Teaching from Auburn University. She is completing her PhD dissertation in Adult Literacy at the University of Pennsylvania.
