Biography John P. Sabatini is a Senior Researcher at the National Center on Adult Literacy at the Graduate School of Education/University of Pennsylvania. He completed his BA degree at the University of Chicago in behavioral sciences with a specialization in neuropsychology. He received his doctorate at the College of Education of the University of Delaware in Cognition and Instruction with a specialization in literacy issues. His areas of interest include the cognitive psychology of reading, reading acquisition and disabilities, assessment, and technology. The project has enhanced the adult literacy knowledge base by comparing formal and informal assessments and by developing new techniques for assessing adult basic literacy skills including computerized assessment techniques. Currently, he is working on the LiteracyLink project designing on-line assessment and instruction tools for the LitHelper and LitLearner components of the system. In addition to his research activities, he has been active writing and disseminating results at professional forums including the Summer Leadership Seminar in Adult Literacy in 1995, International Reading Association Adult and Adolescent Reading Conferences, the Adult Literacy and Technology Conferences, the American Education Research Association, and the National Reading Conference. He also has worked with local adult literacy provider organizations including the Delaware Association of Adult and Community Education, the Maryland Department of Adult Education, and the Center for Literacy in Philadelphia.
